7 Realistic Summer Goals to Set for Personal Growth

Looking to flourish in personal growth and happiness this summer? Summer is the best to set personal goals and create healthy habits. Here’s why: three months is a realistic time frame to set and achieve a goal. There’s a reason New Year’s resolutions are so tough to stick with; a year is a long time and it’s not a realistic amount of time for most people.

Three months is way more realistic and will most likely set you up for success from the beginning. Plus, achieving your goals in August will give you the motivation-boost you need to continue your healthy habits and create even bigger goals for the rest of the year!

Ready to become a healthier, happier person? Create summer goals with these 7 personal development goal ideas!

1. Create time each week for self care

Self care is essential for our wellbeing. It’s the #1 best way to combat stress, burn out, and exhaustion. Set a goal to treat yourself to at least one self-care act per week. For example, this could be meditating, journaling, cooking, taking walks, taking baths, etc. I guarantee you’ll be a more relaxed and happier person by the end of the summer!

2. Attend 3 classes

Invest in your learning this summer by taking at least 2 classes or workshops in your area! Choose something you enjoy and have always wanted to learn more about. Maybe it’s a painting class, a fitness class, or a class on how to start a business.

If what you’re looking for isn’t offered near you, search the internet for an online course instead! I’m currently taking a blogging course online, and it was honestly one of the best investments I’ve ever made in my life. Education will last a lifetime and is something that can never be taken away from you.

3. Hike 5 mountains

Hiking is a great way to get into nature, get in shape, and push yourself mentally. I love to hike and I think the mental challenge of hiking can be even more difficult to overcome than the hike itself. I think that’s true about all exercise and it can feel really rewarding to push past that! If mountains aren’t near you, commit to different outdoor summer goals like kayaking or jogging.

4. Read 5 books

Set a goal to read at least 5 books this summer. Whether they are books to increase your knowledge on a topic, or simply to get caught up in a fictional story, reading is the perfect summer past time.

5. Do 3 things that scare you

I’m a firm believer that growth doesn’t happen in your comfort zone. In order to grow as a person, you need to do things that scare you. Choose to do 3 things this summer that completely terrify you. Maybe it’s flying in an airplane, going zip lining, or starting a blog. Amazing things happen to your confidence and self esteem when you take risks and do things that scare you.

6. Organize and Declutter your home

The summer is a great time to go through all of your belongings and decide what’s worth keeping and what’s not. Do a little throughout the entire summer, and set a goal for your house to be completely decluttered and organized by the end of August. I always like to say that an organized home leads to an organized mind!

7. Set a healthy morning routine

Stay on track with your healthy habits this summer with a healthy morning routine. Choose a few activities to start your day right. Maybe it’s turning on some music as you’re waking up, stretching, or drinking tea and journaling.
